This ubuntu version is using the old and now-unmaintained GStreamer 0.10
version. I think this bug is fixed in newer GStreamer versions.

Please file a bug in ubuntu's launchpad tracker.

It probably happens because you are missing an mp3 decoder plugin. Perhaps
install the gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 package, or
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse/universe/whatever.
