In my case it shouldn't impact performance because I do the blending in the
screen framebuffer in hardware too.

Your idea of repositioning the rectangles would have to be done in the dvdspu
element though, since the blending with the video frame is done just after
creating the rectangles when no downstream element can handle the overlay
metadata.
