--- Comment #138 from Thomas DEBESSE <thomas.debesse at rcf.fr> 2013-09-11 09:07:50 UTC ---
It is impressive to see that everyone recommends this option without
justification (other than to say that it works), and that it must be like that.

For example, the olpc wiki give pipeline examples, the only one pipeline
example that used sync=false is the alsasink one, without justification (no
comment, this is how to do).

Another example, a french ubuntu forum:

A guy says:

> J'avais eu un problème similaire et l'avais résolu en mettant la propriété sync de l'élément alsasink à false.

I translate:

> I had a similar problem and had solved by setting the alsasink sync property to false.

http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=254332

"sync=false" is used by evreyone, at best as workaround, and at worst as
solution and the normal way to do.

And another guy respond:

> merci, ça marche comme ça

I translate:

> thank you, it works like that

This conversation took place in September 2008, we are in September 2013. This
is at least five years that the bug exists and alsasink can not be used in
normal operation.

However, as stated by Sebastian Dröge in Comment #32:

> You should use sync=true, and if that doesn't work this has to be fixed :)

This would mean that hundreds of people have encountered the bug but nobody
reported it since they could be satisfied with a workaround. This is awesome!
