Yes I think it is a good analysis!

And since we can find very old messages about the need for a functional
alsasink under live condition, and this not as the repair of a regression, but
as an improvement, we can say that it never worked!

For example, the bug #340842 was created in 2006, only five month after the
first Gstreamer 0.10 release, and was labelled as wishlist… Seven years ago it
was already a wish, only a wish. :p

Firstly it does not work at all for this use case (synchronized live
streaming), and secondly it never worked.

This is still something to do! :D
