You said "or explicitly after the videomixer" which is what I'm doing:

> gst-launch-1.0 -v ximagesrc ! videomixer name=mix  !  videoscale ! video/x-raw,width=600,height=300 ! ximagesink 

(The above produces the cropped output)

I'm fairly confused now, would you be able to provide a pipeline that has two
src elements into the videomixer; v4l2src and ximagesink with the composited
output scaled to 600 by 300.
