As for the environment, set | grep GST only sees:
GSTDIR=/home/v/src
_='log-from-GST_DEBUG=check:LOG make check'

So I don't think anything pollutes the env make check creates. I'm not sure
what exactly you want me to check where regarding that environment ? Extra
echos in a makefile rule ?
