This is another area where my lack of GStreamer knowledge gets in the way. It
was not obvious if there is a pattern regarding GstMeta types. I can see a few
defined in individual elements, but it wasn't obvious how to create a generic
one.

That would be easy for me to do, if you think that's the more acceptable way to
define a new GstMeta type.
