This does not freeze:

gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc ! video/x-raw, height=1, format=GRAY8 !
videoconvert ! breakmydata probability=1 set-to=-1 ! ximagesink

I speculatively blame videoconvert (which is not needed in the case of
glimagesink, so it presumably ends up in passthrough).
