Which likely happens 1s after you request the switch.

That said, it doesn't mean that your patch isn't useful, it is. It just doesn't
seem to do what you'd expect because it still needs to wait before switching.
To switch immediately you'd need to keep the last keyframe and all the buffers
after it for every pad so you could switch immediately when requested. This
could be a 3rd operation mode (requires more memory).
