Unfortunately right now I'm facing that with ges-launch-1.0 again.
Symptoms exactly same. I just play a video. For a small video all works good.
For a huge .AVI file I have 

$ ges-launch-1.0 -l p25.xges -o file:///home/mdzuser1/1.mp4
Loading project from : p25.xges
