Sure, that's fine and is good to have IMO.

What I would like to avoid is checks in autogen.sh that do libtool --version
and then try to parse that number and make sense of it. It should be enough to
have the requirement somewhere in configure.ac and/or .m4 files and then
autoreconf/autotools should check it based on that.
