After investigation, it was found that the rendering issue with coretext
backend in Pango was due to a bug in Cairo that has been fixed upstream. It is
reported that Cairo 1.14.4 is due soon, and should fix this issue (hence fixing
textoverlay elements in GStreamer on OS X with the CoreText backend).
