Looking at what still needs doing with this, I do not understand that comment:
"I would have checked S->t against start_time (that is, check each segment
start against the previous segment end).". From reading the code, S->t is a
start time of a segment. Did you mean something else ? There are so many
different times here that it's all really confusing.
