Just to make sure that I'm not crazy and I'm not wasting the time of the
community, I have tested again stream-*.mp4 on Nexus 7 2013, without any
progress bar. The main thread doesn't do anything fancy. It's super jerky with
a lot of warning messages - more messages for the 50fps file to the point it
can't play. The exact same files play without any problem with my mediacodec
application.

Problem B) of comment 55 is real... Which doesn't mean that I don't have a
separate problem for the files local-*.mp4, aka problem A) and as reported in
comment 54.

If anyone has a h264 video file and an Android Gstreamer-1.7.2 application that
can be played very smoothly with hardware acceleration and without any warning
message at all, please share.
