I'm fine with it. I think the benefits of the change outweigh the
as-far-as-we-know-mostly-hypothetical risk of breakage with third party muxers,
especially seeing that this is in -bad; and if this ever materialises it can be
fixed easily.

However, if you think we should block merging this on a fallback code path
being implemented, that reasonable too :)
