I see what you mean..

At first glance it looks to me like a problem on the client side, and more
specifically something in GstBin or GstPipeline.

What happens is that the fakesink posts an async-done message but the pipeline
drops it and doesn't forward it to the app or post its own async-done message,
and then the pipeline and/or sink don't go back to playing it seems.
