Actually:

With vaapi the cpu usage is about 70% and only a few fps are displayed and the
whole desktop slows down to a few FPS (mouse pointer is laggy too).
Without Vaapi cpu usage is 110% *but* it plays smoothly and there is no general
UI lag.
