I won't rely on Thomas' work - it modifies too many things at the same time. I
want to fix one method, so I will rely on master.

Please tell me, what is the role of "filter" parameter passed to get_caps()?
It's not documented. I've seen in some elements and default implementation of
get_caps() that it if it's not NULL the actual caps are intersected with caps
passed as filter. Should I do this?
