That sounds like a bug which should be reported against rhythmbox first, while
installing new plugins means these new plugins may be used over previously
installed ones, it is still up to the application to deal with that and
configure them appropriately, help would be easier to provide if you can figure
out and share the gstreamer pipelines that are set up by rhythmbox in both
cases.
