find out what that black screen problem is.

The dominant use case for us (Ubuntu desktop team) is with Totem. And prior to
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=105013 that worked well with vaapi
in both Xorg and Wayland sessions. Although that assumes you also had patches
for these installed to fix the Wayland case:
