[gst-devel] Problem with alsa.m4

Following up from an earlier email by Erik Walthinsen from the GStreamer
project...

In fact, we're already using a hacked version of the ALSA macro:
here's an earlier email about that, which I sent to probably the wrong
place...

----

Hi guys. Great work with ALSA, keep it up.

I've been having some problems with the AM_PATH_ALSA macro, from
alsa-lib/utils/alsa.m4. It works okay - it just doesn't quite do what I
want. I'm working on the gstreamer project
(http://gstreamer.sourceforge.net/), which has a large collection of
plugins, and its not by any means fatal if some of the plugins can't be
built. I want to check for the existence of the alsa library so that I
can build the appropriate plugin if possible, but smoothly pass it by if
alsa isn't installed or isn't recent enough.

To that end, I've updated the AM_PATH_ALSA macro to have the standard
"ACTION_IF_FOUND, ACTION_IF_NOT_FOUND" syntax:

  dnl AM_PATH_ALSA([MINIMUM-VERSION [, ACTION-IF-FOUND [,
		   ACTION-IF-NOT-FOUND]]])

I've kept the backwards compatible behaviour of failing with an
AC_MSG_ERROR if the ACTIONS_IF_NOT_FOUND isn't specified, but the
user can now specify an alternate action (I simply set a HAVE_LIBASOUND
variable).

I attach my modified version: I modified it from the HEAD cvs version,
which was revision 1.11. I hope that you can add this to your
distribution: for now, it's sitting in my acinclude.m4 file. ;-)

Best regards,
Richard Boulton
