Summary: no way to turn off gtk in build for demo apps

There's currently no way to disable use of gtk.
So when you're trying to cross-compile, and you have gtk2 installed on your
system, it picks it up and tries to link against it even though you don't
want it in your cross-compile environment.
Also, it would be better to move all those demo apps out of the dirs imo.
Although I could be wrong.
Or maybe an option to disable building of demo apps.
whatever;)
