i gonna read your whole reply, but before i forget, thomasvs suggested
that i can put the whole time->byte mapping in my app (not in gstreamer).

i just need to make mpeg2dec run in batch mode to extract the mapping
to an index file.  Then i can easily manage things within my app
until the TimeCache stuff is mature enough.

Gotta go now .. i'll comment on the other stuff soon.
