maybe... but its different functionalities-- esdmon delivers the mixed audio as its put out my speakers, esdrec (maybe i should call it esdsrc?) the soundcard input...

might well be possible to do this with an ifdef, but the file then would  have to be compiled twice with the different defines. i'm an autoconf newbie, so i wouldnt know how to do this...? also it would seem kinda quirky, i've never seen a define used like that.
