Ah, I didn't know it was considered working - I thought it was known to
be a troubled child.

Here's what I see: 

gst-launch-0.7 filesrc location="tori amos - Cornflake Girl orginal.mp3"

The same thing if I use mmap=false

xmms, esdsink etc talk to ALSA fine, but it is a 2.6 kernel so who
knows? 

Tomorrow I'll stop it in the debugger and look at the params structure
it's calling libasound with.
