[gst-devel] compile problem

when I try:
    gcc `pkg-config gstreamer-0.6 --cflags --libs` -o test test.c


I get this message:

Package gstreamer-0.6 was not found in the pkg-config search path
perhaps you shoul add the directory containing gstreamer-0.6.pc to the
PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No Package gstreamer-0.6 found

I've tried a lot but it still won't work. Can someone help me?
