There are patches now that address most of the open issues, but I haven't had a chance to take a look at them in detail yet or test them properly. Don't know if anyone else has.

While it would be really cool to get this stuff in before the release, I think the best thing to do is to revert the mixer stuff to the status quo ante and get on with the release, given that the changes are non-trivial, add a fair bit of API and only had very limited testing.

However, if we don't add it now, we should probably be prepared to roll out another -base release in time for gnome-2.20. Is that doable? Are there big additions planned to core/base in the near future that would delay such a release?
