I'm open to it - but not without actually API/ABI breakage to make it
worthwhile.

Just bumping the major number means all the library extensions change,
which makes all the apps have to do work to switch over anyway. If we're
going to do that, we have a bunch of things marked [0.11] that we ought
to do too.
