Hi everyone,
So GStreamer has been accepted into this years Google Summer of Code,
this means that both potential students and mentors should start signing
up on the Google website. Mentors can sign up here right away:
http://socghop.appspot.com/

Interested students will eventually be able to log into that page, but
for now I suggest to first start thinking about what kind of tasks you
could like to do for the summer of code. We got some information about
what we expect here:
http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/wiki/TaskList

That page also lists some suggestions, but please be aware that those
are mostly a collection of lose ideas for stuff needed, so feel free to
propose a project of your own choosing instead. What I do suggest though
is that before you submit the project to google you either send an email
with an outline to this mailing list or come onto #gstreamer on
irc.freenode.net and discuss your project. If you before you submit your
proposal through the Google pages can find someone interested in being
your mentor then your chances of being picked are much higher.

GStreamer Summit
I also thought I should take the chance to let everyone know that we are
in the early stages of planning some kind of GStreamer Summit during the
(http://www.grancanariadesktopsummit.org/). It will probably end up
being a 1 day thing where those interested get together and discuss
current status of GStreamer and plans for going forward. Maybe looking
at some issues and so on. So anyone interested in participating in that
event should sign up for the desktop summit and we will post a new
message to this list soonish with more details, and probably a wiki page
with some kind of agenda. This gathering might also be a good
opportunity to use last years Summer of Code organisation money, so we
can offer participants a dinner for example.
