Of course that's possible. Since you didn't describe anything in any
sort of detail, we can't advise on what you might need to change,
though.

Leaving pads unlinked is pretty common - e.g. in a pipeline displaying
only video, if the demuxer provides an audio pad, that audio pad would
just be left unlinked.
