black flash when changing position of xvimagesink container

When moving the position of an a gtk.EventBox or gtk.Window with an
xvimagesink inside, I sometimes get a momentary black flash before the video
re-appears.

What's going on?  Any way to get rid of this?

In my particular use case, the video is always paused when moving, if that
sets off any lightbulbs.
