Position tracking

Hi All,

Is there an async way of tracking the position/elapsed time of a playback cycle?

I had hoped that there might be a message appearing on the bus each
time the stream is in the playing state and it's elapsed time changed
(one could probably set the resolution of these messages as well, like
evey second/mill-secs etc so that it doesn't flood the bus with too
much noise).

But I dont think such a facility exists. So, is running your own
timer, on which you send a position query the only way to do it?

Any inputs on how 'normally' playback time/position is tracked in gstreamer?
