I'm not sure why you think "this kind of help" (whatever that refers to)
is frowned upon on this list.

I'm not aware of anything being frowned upon, other than completely
unintelligible questions without any context perhaps, or questions about
5-year old versions of GStreamer; neither of which applies here, as far
as I can tell.

[1] is worth a read though (in general, not related to anything you
wrote).

If people are slow to respond, this might just be because they're still
digesting their xmas dinners, or sleeping off their digestifs.
