gst_element_query_position always returning zero

Hi,

 I have a source plugin which interfaces with the browser to receive
internet radio stream packets & passes downstream using gst_pad_push.
what I observe is the pipeline (browser plugin -> decodebin2 -> alsasink)
is set to PLAYING STATE but the gst_element_query_position  is always
returning zsero & I don't hear anything , I  will be really thankful if you
can point out the  possible cause of the problem here..
