Emulating behavior of gst-launch -e in gst program

Ok, break out the wet noodle.  Mea Culpa.

I had originally had /GST_ELEMENT my_pipeline/  in /main()/.  I copied the
declaration outside main() and, obviously, nothing worked because I COPIED
it not MOVED it.  Dumb, dumb, dumb.
