How to get whole buffered size in the pipeline?

One of my colleagues suggested to implement a query for accumulating queued
bytes. 
For example, if one element get a query "accumulation", the element send the
amount of bytes inside of the element. Then, the query event function of
another element just adds the response with its own bytes. 

Does it make sense?
