linker error 'gst_pad_new_from_template'

I tried downloading gstreamer-1.0-android-arm-1.2.4-debug.zip

I changed my GSTREAMER_SDK_ROOT_ANDROID to point to where I had unzipped the
archive.

export
GSTREAMER_SDK_ROOT_ANDROID=~/opt/gstreamer-1.0-android-arm-1.2.4-debug

I then tried to recompile and encountered the following error:

GSTREAMER_ROOT not defined.

Do you have an example of how to compile an Android app using the binaries
from:

http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/data/pkg/android/
