There is no recommended combination, they all should work. If you
suspect that there is a bug in GStreamer causing problems as you
described, please report a bug with information about the hardware you
use and a minimal testcase. Did you try running other GL applications
btw?

However if the GPU locks up you found a problem in your GL stack or GPU
driver in any case, userspace must never be able to cause such
problems... even if buggy.
