gstreamer meta data support

Hi,
 
Under GStreamer framework, what should be the best practice, if I want to
add some user-defined meta data to per video frame-by-frame data buffer, so
that meta data can travel along the pipeline together with the actual video
frame data, so that downstream element(s) can process it?
