1.6.0 is a stable release, and as such should be suitable for
production, depending on your exact definition of "stable". As with
every software, you can of course run into bugs and also into bugs that
did not exist in 1.4, but those should be rare and if you find anything
please report it as soon as possible so we can get it fixed.

1.5.90 (the current state in GIT master) should also be very stable at
this point, and if you plan to upgrade to 1.6.0 it would be a good idea
to start with that now and report any issues you find.
