Take a look at this slightly more complicated example, which is using
compositor instead of videomixer (don't use videomixer in new code):
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-bad/tree/tests/examples/playout.c

There might be a simpler example somewhere else in tests/examples.
