Can videorate be used to slow down a slide show? Or if not, other options?

This is a sample script that creates a slide show.  The problem is that the
images change as fast as my hardware allows.  I want each image to appear
for 5 seconds before going to the next.

I thought /videorate/ might be the tool for the job, but that plugin assumes
the input has some kind of time markings.
