Best way of obtaining gstreamer 1.9.90 for raspberry pi with gst-omx

I'm building a player on the raspberry pi, what is the best way of obtaining 1.9.90 or above, as this apparently has better performance ?  [ref]

I'm currently on 1.4.4, from the raspbian repository.
