 - did you gst_bin_add() the elements to the bin before linking?
(although this would not cause linking failure)

 - are you handling rtspsrc's "pad-added" signal? (when created,
rtspsrc does not have any pads yet, so you can only link it later once
it knows what streams it will output and once it has added pads for
each stream).
