Much more than you.

Could it be you are missing the other source packages?

Try "videotestsrc" instead of "fakesrc"

Trying to build from source using this link as a guide:

I install the dependencies and get on with the build see attached log file.
I assume the git related messages at the start can be safely ignored (I grabbed the source via wget https://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/src/gstreamer/gstreamer-1.10.4.tar.xz.

In a nutshell I run:
./autogen.sh followed by make (all output in attached log).

When finished I run a couple command to validate:

    joe at joelaptop:/usr/local/src/gstreamer-1.10.4$ ./tools/gst-launch-1.0 -v fakesrc num_buffers=5 ! fakesink
    *ERROR*: pipeline could not be constructed: no element "fakesrc".

    joe at joelaptop:/usr/local/src/gstreamer-1.10.4$ ./tools/gst-inspect-1.0 
    staticelements:  bin: Generic bin
    staticelements:  pipeline: Pipeline object

    Total count: 1 plugin, 2 features
