Gstreamer 1.12 snapshots

Hello, in the release notes for GStreamer 1.12 there's a bullet point that
mentions:

 

The high-level GstPlayer API was extended with functions for taking video
snapshots and enabling accurate seeking

 

Does that refer to taking a single frame from a video stream and saving it?
If so, is it possible to do with gst-launch-1.0?  If so, can you provide an
example?
