Getting data from buffer to pass to another function/process outside of Gstreamer

Never mind, I figured it out.  I had guess correctly in my last post.  it
boiled down to just calling:

self.identity.connect('handoff',
self.functionToBeCalledWhenHandoffMessageReceived)
