Background Image makes videomixer really slow

I am trying to display two videos side by side and add a background image..
When I just run the two videos, the latency is great and I get the desired
30 fps..

As soon as I add the background image to the videomixer I get 20 fps and the
rtspsrc gets a delay of some seconds and only displays part of the video.. 



I've tried without imagefreeze and multifilesrc adding
caps="image/png,framerate=30/1"
also with and without queue2, also with and without sync=false.

What am I missing?
