Detect v4l2src and record

Hello I'm doing a test with gstreamer i need to record the video stream of my
/dev/video* devices.
I'm working with a C program, I know how to record one single camera.
But if I have 12 cameras? Do i need to create a pipeline for each one?
I need to detect how many /dev/video devices are connected and start
recording each one of them.
Any idea how can i do that?
