gstreamer to html5 audio?

I am interested in using gsteamer to output audio from a udpsrc to a format that can be used in an html5 audio tag with low latency. In this case, I am interested in the audio only part of the stream.

It looks like mp3 or aac are the most widely supported audio codecs by browsers. The articles I have seen mention "chunked mp3" but are otherwise light on details of the streaming protocol.

I have seen a lot of articles written about how to use a library on the front end to playback streams.

These articles don't mention the server implementation or they recommend something like unreal media server, icecast or shoutcast.

Can this be done with gstreamer?
